Sable B. is the founder of the professional development organization, Real Brown Girls. Through a collaborative and supportive community, Real Brown Girls helps women who trust and believe greatness is in their reach as long as they are willing to put in the the work. Over 35,000 Women and Girls of Color are a part of the online community. Sable is a former high school educator that one day realized that she could build a community outside of her classroom. She left the world of teaching and began conducting career readiness focused workshops. Currently she is a non-profit program director.Sable has had many career pathing takeaways from her sold-out networking events and workshops. A career search can cause you to experience a range of emotions that can sometimes lead to frustration. Career search frustration can encompass; the unexpected duration of your career search, interview outcomes, financial needs, and sometimes feeling unfulfilled with your current career path based upon multiple variables. To combat frustration, it is important for you to focus on the positive experiences and results of your career search to date and remain encouraged. It is within your ability to implement power filled thoughts, words, and planning fortitude when you need to overcome frustration.

Speak positive affirmations during each instance of frustration. Example: I will connect with an industry professional that will lead me to my employable opportunity.

Do something that makes you smile and/or laugh.
Seek advice from industry influencers.
Display an attitude that is open to receiving constructive feedback that can help you improve your marketability and skills.

Were there community service experiences that brought you fulfillment that can be transferred over to a professional position?
Was there a success story that you observed or read that you need to revisit and research how you can have similar success outcomes?
Your ability to speak the language of your chosen industry is important not only when interviewing but also when conversing with various industry professionals. Taking the time to learn your industry language including acronyms and jargon beyond the textbooks is essential to your professional success. Being able to effectively communicate as an industry professional will prompt other professionals to view you as credible and increase your confidence in your professional skills and knowledge.
